Nehemia’s Boldness

For all of them were trying to frighten us, thinking, “They will become discouraged with the work and it will not be done.”  But now, O God, strengthen my hands.

Nehemia 6:9

To get a glimpse at the context of the previous verse, the wall around Jerusalem was close to being complete.  A few enemies of Judah in nearby areas were trying to discourage this as they did not want to see the Jews prosper so close to their own lands.  The Jews were still in captivity, but the king gave Nehemiah permission, complete with officers and horsemen as escorts, to rebuild Jerusalem as well as its walls.

Of course, the neighboring rulers did not see this as a good thing for themselves.  They mocked the Jews when they began to build, and even sent letters to Nehemiah stating that the Jews were planning to rebel as a result of their wall being rebuilt.

Nehemiah went to God for his strength.  May I do the same when I am overcome with adversity, doubt, and resistance from the enemy’s attempt to stop the message of the gospel.  Thankfully, God is in control of all things.  I trust in Him alone to preserve the grace message.

New Adventure

I am very new at blogging and do not really know much about what I am about to undertake, but here it goes.

My purpose for writing is simple: I’d like to post about how God is shaping my life through Scripture.

I am not a writer.  However, I do have a passion and a heart for sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.  I am seeking to pattern my life closer to what God has intended for me and I will be using this site to give an account for what I have been entrusted with.

A little about the name.  I wanted the blog to be titled after what I am seeking.  When I work for my God and obey His Word, I will be given treasures that cannot be taken away from me.  Jesus Christ even says that we ought to sell what we have here in this life and “make (ourselves) money belts which do not wear out, and unfailing treasure in heaven…”(Luke 12:33).

Why?  So that we may bear fruit for eternal life.  Not everything is coming with us into the next life.  However, that which we have labored for God and His kingdom will be there.

It is quite late, so I am wrapping this up early before I can accurately quote where I am coming to this conclusion from.  Please forgive me as I am rather new at this, but I am thrilled to be able to do it nonetheless.

Grace and peace to you from Jesus Christ.
